Nikolai Yanakiev: "Venice mask"

Unlike other of his paintings, which have been inspired by vague moods and emotions or complex mental states here the incitement for creation of the work has been very specific - a Venetian mask. The artist has managed to create a laconic composition in his means of expression. The mask located at the bottom of the canvas concentrates in itself the main expressive power of painting. Apart from the deep and rich colour, it also contains a number of associations with the festive beginning, with the fiesta and the cheerful mood typical for the Venice Carnival.
